Quran Allahuvinte vaakkaanu, srishtikkappettathalla

The Quran Is the Word of Allah, Not a Created Thing

Quran Allahuvinte swantham vaakkaanu, avante oru srishtiyalla ennathinu granthathil ninnum yukthiyil ninnumulla chila pradhaana thelivukal.

Some of the main textual and rational proofs that the Quran is Allah's own speech — an attribute of His — and not something He created.

Charithrathil chila vibhaagangal Quran "srishtikkappettathu" aanennu vaadichu — athaayathu, marangalum parvvathangalum pole Allahuvinte oru srishti maathramaanu athum ennu. Salafaaya panditanmar ithine granthathil ninnum yukthiyil ninnumulla shakthamaaya thelivukalaal ethirthu. Athil chilathu ivide.

Some sects in history claimed that the Quran is "created" — no different from trees or mountains, one more thing Allah made. Scholars of the earliest generations refuted this with strong evidence from both text and reason. Here are some of the main proofs.

Srishtiyum kalppanayum verevereyaanu

Creation and command are distinct

Quran parayunnu: "Srishtiyum kalppanayum avantethu thanne." (7:54) Allahu ivide srishtiyeyum kalppanayeyum verevere parayunnu — srishti avante pravarthanavum, kalppana avante vaakkum aanu. Srishti thanne kalppanayiloodeyaanu sambhavikkunnathu — "Avan oru kaaryam uddheshichaal, 'undaakoo' ennu parayuka maathram, athu undaakunnu." (36:82) Aa kalppana thanne srishtikkappettathaanenkil, athinum oru kalppana vendivarum — ananthamaayi thudarum, athu asaadhyamaanu.

The Quran says: "Surely, His is the creation and the command." (7:54) Allah differentiates here between creation and command — creation is His deed, command is His word. Creation itself happens through command — "His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, 'Be!' and it is." (36:82) If that command were itself created, it would need another command to create it, and so on without end — which is impossible.

Quran Allahuvinte arivaanu

The Quran is Allah's knowledge

"Paramakaarunikan, Quran padhippichu, manushyane srishtichu." (55:1-3) Ivide Allahu thante arivineyum (padhippichathu) srishtiyeyum verevere parayunnu — Quran avante arivaanu, manushyan avante srishtiyaanu. Allahuvinte arivu srishtikkappettathalla.

"The Most Beneficent — He taught the Quran, He created man." (55:1-3) Here Allah differentiates between His knowledge (what He taught) and His creation. The Quran is His knowledge; man is His creation. Allah's knowledge is not created.

Avante vaakkukalkku avasaanamilla

His words have no end

"Samudram ente naathante vaakkukalkkaayi marayaanenkil, aa vaakkukal theerunnathinu mumpe samudram theernnupokum — mattoru samudram sahaayathinaayi konduvannaalum."

"If the sea were ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would run out before the words of my Lord run out, even if We brought another sea like it for aid."

— Al-Kahf 18:109

— Al-Kahf 18:109

Allahuvinte vaakkukal ananthamaanu — srishtikkappetta onninum ee gunam undaakilla, kaaranam srishtikkappetta ellaattinum Allahu oru athirum avasaanavum nishchayichittundu. Avante vaakkinu athilla ennathu athu avante athe swabhaavathil pettathaanu ennathinte lakshanamaanu.

Allah's words are without end — nothing created has this quality, since Allah has set a limit and an end for everything created. That His speech has none is a sign that it belongs to His own attribute, not to His creation.

Avante vaakkukondu abhayam thedunnathu

Seeking refuge in His words

Nabi ﷺ padhippichu: "Aarenkilum oru sthalathu irangi, 'Allahuvinte poornnamaaya vaakkukal kondu avan srishtichathinte doshathil ninnu njaan abhayam thedunnu' ennu paranjaal, aa sthalam vidunnathu vare avane onnum baadhikkilla." Allahuvinte vaakkukal srishtikkappettathaayirunnenkil, athil abhayam thedunnathu shirk (bahudaivaaraadhana) aakumaayirunnu — Allahu allaathe mattenthilum abhayam thedunnathu shirk aanennu ariyaamallo. Nabi ﷺ thante samoohathe shirk padhippikkumo?

The Prophet ﷺ taught: "Whoever stops at a place and says: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created, nothing will harm him until he moves on." If Allah's words were created, seeking refuge in them would be shirk — and it is well known that seeking refuge in anything other than Allah is shirk. Would the Prophet ﷺ, who came to teach pure monotheism, ever have taught his people something that amounted to shirk?

Mungaamikalude ekaabhipraayam

The unanimous view of the early generations

Amr ibn Dinar (R) paranju: "Ezhupathu varshamaayi njaan sahaabikaleyum athinaduta thalamuraayeyum kandumuttikkondirikkunnu — avar parayunnu: Allahu srashtaavaanu, mattellaam srishtiyaanu; Quran Allahuvinte vaakkaanu, athu avanil ninnu vannu avanilekku thirichupokum." Ithu nooru-kanakkinu aadyakaala panditarude ekaabhipraayamaayirunnu.

'Amr ibn Dinar said: "I have been meeting the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and those closest to them for seventy years, and they say: Allah is the Creator, and everything else is created; the Quran is the word of Allah — it came from Him and will return to Him." This was the unanimous position of hundreds of the earliest scholars of this ummah.

Churukkathil, Quran Allahuvinte vaakkaanu — avante oru gunavishesham, avante asthithvathil ninnu veridaathathu. Ee vishvaasamaanu ee samudaayathinte aadyakaala thalamurakal ennum murukeppidichathu.

In summary, the Quran is the word of Allah — one of His attributes, inseparable from His own essence. This is the belief the earliest generations of this ummah held firmly, throughout.

Allahuvinu nallathaayi ariyaam.

And Allah knows best.
